If you would like to write poems for your Mother, then take heed. It does not have to be a technically perfect poem, it just has to come from your heart, and express some of that deep emotion that must be there for your Mom.
Many people take their Mother's for granted, or they get caught in negative patterns of behavior and emotion. For example, the Mother may still treat her child as if he or she was an infant, and still has the right to basically direct his or her life, and to pass judgment, or impart her "wisdom" on a frequent basis.
Poems For Mothers
This is a stage that the healthy adult passes through, but some stay stuck in this annoying struggle with their Mom for true maturity. The stages are first infant and adolescent, and then this struggle for true maturity, and then hopefully maturity.
Anyway. Wherever you are in life, and however you relate to your mom on a daily basis, the facts are that she gave you life. She went through 9 months of pregnancy, and a painful birth for you. She fed you, clothed you, cleaned you, and taught you language. Imagine how she felt on your first day of school. Probably on some levels a relief to have a rest, but also the first symbolic separation. This separation will get stronger and more pronounced over the years, as you make the transition between being literally the same person, to a totally separate independent person.
If you dwell on how emotionally powerful that process is for both Mom and child, you can draw on that feeling, and put it into your poem for your Mother. This will transform the experience from "what shall I say in my poem? What rhymes with 'Mom'?, into potentially a classic expression of love that will move generations of readers to tears, as it touches their own repressed feelings and memories.
