She fed you, clothed you, cleaned you, and taught you language. Imagine how she felt on your first day of school. Probably on some levels a relief to have a rest, but also the first symbolic separation. This separation will get stronger and more pronounced over the years, as you make the transition between being literally the same person, to a totally separate independent person.

If you dwell on how emotionally powerful that process is for both Mom and child, you can draw on that feeling, and put it into your poem for your Mother. This will transform the experience from "what shall I say in my poem? What rhymes with 'Mom'?, into potentially a classic expression of love that will move generations of readers to tears, as it touches their own repressed feelings and memories.
